Alphanumeric
Originally launched in 1998, Alphanumeric “EnvironMental Protection Company” (A#) stepped onto the scene with technical yet functional apparel that was built to ride, eventually laying the roots for modern streetwear. A# fused a mix of lifestyles crossing over skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding, car culture and music. Taking a non-traditional approach to design and marketing, A# utilized an educational-based ad campaign. The concept behind the brand name “Alphanumeric” is to combine letters (alpha) and numbers (numeric), to communicate a worldwide message.
Alphanumeric T-Shirts were seen all over the skateparks over 10 years ago. Kenny Hughes, Kareem Cambell, and Pat Chanitta were some of the Original Sponsors. They created many different variations with the Alphanumeric Logo. One of my favorite Alphanumeric T-shirts was the one with the photos of the different skate spots and one of them was a yellow hydrant. Most people would look at a shirt like that and wonder why someone would wear it. Alphanumeric T-shirts separate the cool kids from the crowd. Enough said.
