DGK was started by Stevie Williams, who grew up in North Philadelphia, became interested in skateboarding at a very young age, when he was exposed to the passionate and aggressive Philadelphia skateboarding scene. Williams got his first skateboard at the age of 11 and would always be seen on the streets skateboarding. He and his friends were often taunted at the local skate arena as "Dirty Ghetto Kids", but his passion for skateboarding did not change.
